Although Nico Hulkenberg doesn’t know much about Carlos Sainz, he acknowledges that his new Renault team-mate is “certainly fast.”
Last week it was confirmed that Sainz would be heading to Renault earlier this expected after Jolyon Palmer agreed that Japan would be his last race.
As such Hulkerberg has a new team-mate in the highly-rated Spaniard.
He told Auto Motor und Sport: “I only know him from the paddock.
“He is an ambitious driver, somewhat young and wild but certainly fast.”
Asked if he was looking forward to the new challenge, he replied: “It’s okay. I will continue do to my own thing.”
The German, who has scored 34 of Renault’s 42 points this season, concedes it won’t be easy for Sainz making the switch ahead of the final four races of the campaign.
“That is hard to estimate,” he said. “Of course you always need a certain period of familiarisation. We must wait.”
